Arkansas

The name "Arkansas" is derived from a French interpretation of an indigenous term, likely from the Quapaw tribe who were Native Americans in the region. French explorers and settlers in the early 18th century encountered the natives and adopted the word "Akansa" or "Arkansa" to refer to the region. It was eventually anglicized into "Arkansas." Officially adopted as the name of the state in 1881, Arkansas is located in the southern region of the United States. It shares borders with six states, including Missouri to the north, Tennessee to the east, Louisiana to the south, and Texas to the southwest. The eastern border is primarily delineated by the Mississippi River, while the western border follows the narrow Arkansas River and various lakes. With an area of approximately 53,179 square miles, Arkansas is the 29th largest state in the nation.

Known as the "Natural State," Arkansas boasts a diverse geography ranging from the lowlands of the Mississippi Alluvial Plain in the east to the Ouachita Mountains in the west.
