The name Audi is derived from the Latin word "audire," which means "to listen." It was founded in 1910 by August Horch in Zwickau, Germany. Initially, Horch had established the Horch automobile company in 1899 but was forced to leave due to a trademark infringement dispute over his last name. However, due to his passion for automobile manufacturing, he established a new company with the help of his business partners, Franz and Paul Fikentscher. They decided to name the company Audi, which can be seen as a translation of Horch, meaning "hark" or "listen" in German.
