Types of Name Changes
There are three types of name changes.
Name Change by a Minor
This type of name change seeks to change the name of a minor and is usually filed by a parent or guardian. Usually, this is prompted by the minor; however, a minor will need the help of a parent or legal guardian to file for a name change.
Name Change by an Adult
The most common form of name change, an adult name change is when a person over the 18 years of age chooses to have their name changed. There could be a variety for reasons to change names (either first or last). Most common name changes are changes to the last name by women after marriage (or divorce).
Name Change by a Family
Though not very common, a family, as a whole, can decide to change their last name.
